“I know I can never take back what I did, and trust me, every time I see a picture of us or see you around town, all I feel is guilt. I know I can’t make it up to you, but I can try.”
“How?” Amy turns her full body towards me, her legs hanging off the edge of the rock.
“I know you, Amy. I know what you love. I know what annoys you. I know what makes you angry. I know everything.” The adrenaline is pumping through my body. I take a daring step forward, and she stands up. Although she has grown, Amy is still a good seven inches shorter than I.
“Correction: you used to know me. I’m not 13 anymore, Luke. I’m not that little girl you met at camp.”
“I bet you haven’t changed that much. Let me at least try to make it up to you. One week. That is all I ask. If you still absolutely hate me after this week, I’ll leave you be. I’ll never again attempt to regain your friendship. What do you have to lose, Amy Marie?” Her eyes soften for a second.
"Fine. One week is all you get, Lucas."
*~*~*
Amy and Luke were inseparable when they were young. Their mothers planned their futures together, and their fathers joked of grand kids. But when Lucas gets older, he decides he doesn't need Amy anymore.
Left in the dust, Amy now hates Lucas. That is, until their last week at the camp that brought them together. Lucas slowly regains Amy's trust, but he is hiding something--something he won't be able to fix this time.
