My eyes were literally glowing, there was no mistaking it. It was not a reflection of light, or any of the other excuses I had used or others had assumed. They were glowing a light sapphire blue color. It was not a bright glow, but it was definitely a glow. Glowing eyes were not normal. Okay, at this point I had to admit it, I was no longer normal. What was I then? For that, I had no answer [[Word count: 495,000]] Copyright August 2016. All Rights Reserved. Readers may not copy, alter, or steal this story. Five-year-old Kendall Frodell is a genius and has been ever since she was born. The fact that she can and does read high school material, can mentally solve a wide array of equations, and has an incredible memory for trivia could've all easily skipped her from Kindergarten to fifth grade. But Kenny's intelligence (along with her voice) hides behind vague, situation-based index cards and rewritten answers. Things quickly change when she becomes afflicted with peculiar fainting spells-- ones where she walks, writes, and even solves equations while seemingly unconscious. Her erudition is unwillingly revealed, and she's whisked off to an academy for people like her. Very suddenly becoming aware of a whole society of gifted children, school has never been more challenging. An enforced social hierarchy, infamously harsh teachers, blockheaded children-- and the brief disappearances of her classmates only add to everything. In the style of both Ender's Game and the X-Men, The Prodigies is a piece of speculative fiction that will leave you...curious. Highest Ranking: #2 in Science Fiction [©2017-2018. "People of the United States of America, I am here to inform you of the situation that is currently happening and that I have just been recently informed of. A classified experiment has been taking place since the year of 1988. The goal of this experiment was to help decrease our population issues around the world for the future generations. Later on, a serum was injected to anyone over the age 13 making sure less children were able to be born. The serum was hidden in the vaccines. However, what we didn't know due to lack of regulation, was that the serum genetically mutated to give a shorter life span after a few years. Anyone born in the year of 1998, 1999, and 2000, will live for another 3 weeks, 3 days, and 17 hours. The virus has become more powerful than we are able to handle yet and we are working on finding a cure as we speak. We advise everyone to not panic and remain calm. We must work through this together. We must unite as a country. Thank you." The reporter on the TV was looking shocked and speechless. It was a grave silence until she cleared her throat and was finally able to speak. She continued to go on further about the details she was getting, but I didn't listen. I looked at my friends. They were already looking at me. Tears brimmed in my eyes along with Casey's. Devin came and hugged us both. We were all best friends. We were all 17, born in 1999. We were all apart of an unknown experiment gone wrong. All slowly dying.

The Year 3000, first published in 1897 by the Italian neurologist, physiologist, and anthropologist Paolo Mantegazza, and defined by him as a dream, instead of a novel, was considered by many to be the forerunner of many science fiction books. It describes the human society of the year 3000, which is associated with the United States of the world, and which has long forgotten wars. The "dream" that begins as an application of the philosophical principles of equality, social law, and meritocratic progress, unfolds with a dreamlike trend, passing from detailed descriptions of small things to the philosophy of maximum systems, or to the commentary on religion of the year 3000, when the author, not hiding the autobiographical references in the book, expresses his agnostic beliefs. Unfortunately, however, the "dream" also takes on a nightmare tone, when, starting from the aforementioned principles of evolution, it comes to the recommended suppression of fragile newborns and therefore "unfit for life" or "predisposed to crime." Science, when it has the presumption of replacing God, leads to the delirium of omnipotence, and to a severe conflict between reason and heart: significant that only years after the publication of this book.
