She is the Communicator of the New Area. The Communicators do the one job other humans are too afraid to do, communicating and preventing violence between wolves and humans. "My name is Alara. I'm the new Communicator. This is my first day. I-" "I know what Communicators are all about," he interrupts. "I've met many over the years. You speak of understanding and cooperation while your guns are loading behind your backs." "That's not-" "Save your diplomatic bullshit for someone who hasn't heard it before." His voice remains calm, which somehow makes it more terrifying. "I want the human who killed one of our own." "We have laws-" "Your laws." The contempt is undisguised now. "Your laws that somehow always find humans innocent of crimes against wolves. Your laws that punish a wolf's defense of territory as aggression. Your laws that treat us as animals when it suits you and as criminals when it doesn't." This is the first book in the series, so please don't expect anything perfect just yet. It's a first draft and a work in progress :)

Years alone-until they tossed a human into his cell. No words. No reason. The Reserve - that's what they call the facility where captured wolves are kept. Officially, it exists for "research and diplomatic purposes," but everyone knows the truth. It's a prison. Insurance, in case things go bad again. He walks toward me and I stop crawling, still on my hands and knees. His chains rattle when he comes closer, and just before he reaches me, they pull tight. He can't take another step. He growls and angrily pulls on them. The growl should make me crawl backwards, but it doesn't. Instead, I realize he's as trapped as I am. "You sure you want to take a step closer?" He sounds almost curious now, like he's genuinely interested in what I'll do. "Just a little more, and there will be nothing that will protect you from me." I look up at him from the floor, craning my neck back. He looks merciless, cold. Strong and powerful even in chains. "Water," I repeat, this time looking up at him and holding his gaze while still on my knees. He raises his eyebrows, looking down at me, not blinking once."Ordering me now?" He tilts his head slightly, focusing on me. This is the second book in the series (The Communicator), but it can be read on its own. Please don't expect anything perfect just yet-it's a first draft and still a work in progress :)
