Jordyn Rivers. Twenty year old soccer player with a mouth of a sailor and an attitude that would give Regina George a run for her money. When she gets accepted into California State University along with her two best friends, she can't wait to be released into the American college life. To have fun, be free, and of course - continue playing varsity soccer. Arriving at college, she inevitably stumbles across Jace Parker. All star basketball player, captain of the varsity team. Professional player on and off the court. Walks, talks, breaths and probably sleeps like he's the shit. And he is. Girls want him and guys want to be like him. The two hot heads cross paths, and long story short, it's hate, and electric attraction at first sight. They say you can't fight fire with fire. Two sports. Two pro-athletes. One goal. I had been second best all my life. But this time, when it comes to her, I'm not willing to accept defeat. I'll do whatever it takes to get her to choose me. *** Having a best friend that was wildly popular, and one of the best hockey players in the United American Hockey League, was both a curse and a blessing. On the plus side, I got to play hockey with my best friend, and there was never a shortage of beautiful girls. At least there wasn't until Nash decided to man up and tell his childhood friend that he'd always loved her. The bad part was that I usually ended up being second best. In my late teens and early twenties I hadn't cared that I wasn't picked in the first round of the draft, or that sponsors chose Nash ahead of me, or even if I ended up with a girl who didn't really want me for me. I made a nice living playing hockey. I had a few good friends and a nice place to live in the middle of Manhattan. Despite not being the best, I'd made most of my dreams come true and it was a far stretch from the lonely kid I'd been growing up in the rural Midwest. I was happy. I was content. Until her.... It's not like I didn't want what Nash had. I did. I do. Who doesn't want a happily ever after? It's just that I've never taken the risk and allowed a woman to see past my defenses before, to see the real me, with my baggage and all my insecurities... until now. As scary as that is in itself, what makes it complicated is that my new roommate, Jackson - who I offered my spare bedroom to a while back when he needed a place to stay - and Bryce - one of my friends and teammates- also seem to have an interest in her... the woman who has me questioning all my decisions. The thing is... I'm pretty sure I'm not willing to be a second choice this time around...

What happens when the star baseball player hits a home run into the art studio window? ***** All Sadie Lane Garner needed to make herself happy was a canvas and paintbrush. With copious projects due and little studio time, she volunteers to clean the art building in exchange for after-hour use of the university art supplies. But, she doesn't foresee the loud baseball games outside the workshop windows, the near-perfect view of the field, or the sight of devious, dark-haired athlete, Elijah Preston, known for his charm and home runs. And it doesn't take long for Sadie to find out he also has the perfect view of her. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Completed, 80-85k words Stand Alone novel [previously named The Art of Falling] Cover photo from Pexels edited on Canva Copyright of Anna Steffey All rights reserved. We're not in love. Our past is a dumpster fire. The best we are is friends with benefits... without the friends' part. Jake Harrison, USC's star quarterback, goes through girls faster than jock straps. If that's not disgusting enough, he's my best friend's brother and my prime motivation for celibacy. Transferring to UCLA means finally getting out of my dad's house. All I want is to stay under the social radar, make Dad proud by earning my paralegal certification, and get out of Los Angeles. When Jake learns I'm nearby, the cocky jerk will stop at nothing to rekindle what didn't work before. He thinks he's grown and matured past the boy who crushed my teenage heart. I think he's taken too many tackles into the turf, but when he proposes a stress management agreement during his season... I can't help but see his point. His seven-and-a-half-inch point. The last time we indulged, we got sloppy. Not the good kind-soul-crushing feelings-sloppy. My brain knows cutting ties was for the best, but the rest of my body still hates me. But I won't be made a fool again. This time, I have rules: No attachment. No cuddles. And no falling in love. Yet, when treacherous feelings resurface, I do the worst thing possible-Break my own rules. This time, whoever falls first isn't getting back up. Story is complete.
