Annalisse doesn't have trouble mingling with society, getting to work on time, or wishful thinking, but the young woman can't seem to please her parents. In fact, she doesn't even know if she's happy with what she's made of her own life, living as a waitress in New York - a city of opputunity, but not opportunity enough for a graduated food enthusiast. Sixteen dollars an hour won't suffice forever. Worse is her mother's incessant nagging, and eventual requirement - Ann must marry, or make a name for herself in the world. Both are troublesome options, but so do Ann's trials, triumphs, and learning experiences begin. Through poached eggs, quite a few manly men, and doubtingly humorous instances does Ann realize that living, at its best, is like an inspired meal, a spontaneously created course. Sometimes sweet, sometimes savory, and always, always, uncharted.
