~ My skin prickled from the odd sensation of the warmth radiating off of him like an oven, I could smell him from this close and trust me when I tell you he smelt good. Like baked apple slices sprinkled with sugar as well as cinnamon and the spicy musk of sandal wood. I just wanted to close my eyes and fill my nose with his scent, so that's exactly what I did. At least I'd smell something nice before I die. I swear I heard someone groan as I inhaled his intoxicatingly perfect scent, maybe my ears need to be checked. I felt something graze the skin of my neck and prepared myself for the end, I knew any moment a pair of sharp jaws would clamp down on my neck and crush the life out of me. I squeezed my eyes even tighter and contracted every muscle in my body awaiting my end. I waited. Still waiting... Can't he just hurry up and kill me already. I looked up at him and saw one of the most shocking sights I've ever seen. Alpha Hunter had his eyes close and was in the midst of deeply inhaling the scent from my neck, let's just say my jaw hit the floor at such a sight. Please tell me this isn't happening. "Ladies and gentlemen I do believe Alpha Hunter of the Red Druids pack has found his mate, if he chooses to accept her." Microphone guy announced his voice dripping with disbelief. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Aspen a badass she-wolf soon discovers her fate may not be a glorious victory, but a struggle like none other. "What the hell?" I took a step closer to the mirror, staring at my reflection in disbelief. The person looking back was still me, but at the same time it wasn't. I had the same thick, dark, curly hair. The same hazel eyes. The same olive skin with a light dusting of freckles (ugh) scattered across the bridge of my nose. But my curls were now streaked with highlights. And not the subtle, golden-brown ones that sometimes appeared during the summer. No, these were an aggressive, dazzling blond that went from the roots of my hair all the way to the tips. It looked like I had spent a full day getting my hair done in some upscale salon. Never mind that I had never set foot in such a place since the day I was born. My eyes appeared somehow wider and more luminous. The colour brighter, my eyelashes darker up against them. And, when I looked closely, my pupils seemed to be slitted almost like a cat. I looked down at my body. My skinny arms-which had always refused to gain any definition no matter how hard I exercised-were lined with flat, wiry muscles. My bony shoulders were now curved and smooth. My scrawny legs were toned like a dancer. I reached down and lifted my shirt, revealing two subtle lines running vertically down my perfectly flat stomach, hinting at the rock-hard abs underneath. My whole body was rippling with strength. Like liquid steel.

Now, I've been hungover before. Arguably more than most. I've experienced the entire spectrum of complicated euphoria that comes with drinking until you can't stand. I've witnessed things that upon reflection, no sober human being could even begin to comprehend through the kaleidoscopic of lens of Dutch courage. There has been very little I couldn't chalk up to the consequences of my own actions while recovering from a particularly heavy night of partying. But as the stranger in front of me demanded for me to stop, his entire appearance morphed into something monstrous. And I can honestly say, that was a first for me. The air grew thin as I began to shake uncontrollably, a rotten cold sweat breaking out across my skin as my tongue simultaneously turned to ash in my mouth. His pupils had blown to an unearthly size, the whites of his eyes rapidly growing blood shot before flooding with thick, burgundy splotches, removing any trace of humanity. Dark veins of blues and purples bulged along his neck, darkening to a perturbing black as they crawled along his jawline and burst forth from his orifices, joining a tangled web beneath his skin. His canines which had already been relatively prominent, extended even further, their sudden evolution an inescapable indicator of their deadliness. His head morphed and elongated just past the point of natural, jaw clenching and sickening cracks looming as I stood frozen in stock horror fear. Everything in my body screamed that what I was witnessing was just wrong. That if there was a God, this creature was the antithesis. I was in the presence of the ultimate predator and I was one swipe away from having my throat ripped out. The man I'd only a few minutes earlier considered attractive, had become one of the vilest creatures I'd ever seen. Definitely not a crackhead.
