A dokkaebi, or goblin, lives in the city of Kangcho and protects it from both criminals and demons. His life is upended when a gumiho he left for dead centuries ago, Cho Miyoung, comes to the city in search of a better life. Both are caught up in a mass revival of the dead, all of them seeking people's souls to use in creation of the 'Soul Gems'. The story of a young boy becoming a man, and an agent becoming a hunter.

A web of coincidences bring together the lives of several individuals. One, a renouncer of her family's farmer lifestyle, meets a thief whom she becomes assistant to. Another, a well-intentioned reporter, hires them for a job that sends them into contact with a volatile idol.
