While one is the journal of a Japanese boy who transfers to an American school attempting to learn the culture and the language where he recounts his daily life in an attempt to practice English, the other is the written notes for character studies by another boy who dreams of illustrating his own stories and studies the people around him to help him write compelling characters for his stories.
