At thirteen, Avianna Ellis was legally pronounced dead, along with her parents and younger brother.
What nobody else knows is that Ava's heart was still beating when the Institution took her fatally wounded body from the ER. Having no living relatives left, Ava was the perfect candidate for testing artificial material for future medical emergencies. She was the first step to saving lives all around the world, and all it took was a little bit of wiring.
Except, the experiments done on Ava didn't just save her life -- years of wires and needles poking and prodding at her skin made her better. Stronger. Smarter. More dangerous. She was considered a liability to society, and so she had to be terminated.
What the Institution failed to realize was that Ava was a lot smarter than they gave her credit for, and four years of watching and planning was plenty of time to figure out an escape route. Now, all Ava has to do is stay under the radar, but that's kind of hard to do when a curious teenage boy enters the picture, and her memory's so damaged she can't even remember her own birthday.
