Abe Barrett is surrounded by ghosts - some of them are even his roommates! But now Abe's visions show something dark coming, and it wants Abe dead. ***** When Abe Barrett's family died, he started seeing ghosts. Soon he was living with three of them, and it turns out ghosts are just as eccentric as people. Abe is bothered by the ghosts constantly since he doesn't want to solve their murders, avenge them or do much of anything. He just wants to do his job and relax. His dreams, however, have been getting darker as people in town start to disappear. Soon Abe realizes there is something hunting him, and that same threat was involved with his family's deaths. "What's your name?" he asked. I hesitated. "Dawn." He repeated it under his breath once, then again, slower, as if he was tasting it. "Dawn." The sound of it hit something in me that shouldn't have existed. But then his gaze hardened again. "You were with her," he said quietly, anger laced in his face as he brought up Mandy. "How do you know her?" "I don't," he said tightly. "But I know what her pack did," His words confused me, "she's a killer. I've been tracking her for weeks." My blood ran cold. "You're lying." "I wish I was," he murmured, stepping closer again. "She's dangerous, Dawn." "She's my friend." He flinched like I'd struck him. "She's the reason people are after you." "That doesn't make sense-" "She's the one they were following. But they found you too, and they changed their target. I don't know why." His eyes flicked over my face, his tone shifting. "Unless... unless they know what you are." I took a sharp step back, panic clawing at my throat. "You don't know anything about me." "No," he said quietly. "But I want to." The way he said it made my pulse stutter. His voice was aching. And then, he grew softer, "When I found you, I thought you were just a human. I tried to tell myself you were. But my wolf..." He stopped, dragging in a rough breath. "He knows you. He recognized you before I even saw your face." "What are you even saying," I shook my head, heart racing. "You're insane." "You won't f*cking call him?!" She yelled, her voice evolved in a new level of dangerousness and antagonism. I kept on sobbing and shook my head but she just laughed like a psychopath. "Really? You dare defy---" "Stop it please! Calling him is like asking me to kill him. I can't carry his blood on my shoulder forever he's my f*cking boyfriend! My man!" I snapped and what she did next stole breath away from me. She grabbed a handful of my hair and tugged. She pulled me a few feet across the cement floor and I could hear Amina's scream in the midst of the chaos in my mind. "God she'll pull my hair out of my head" I thought I whined as one of her men threw me in the middle of the floor and I crashed to the ground. She finally grabbed my left upper arm and pulled me up to stand on my wobbling legs. Natalie slapped me hard on my face and I fell back on the floor. "I am sick and tired of your brave front! What a stubborn bitch. You've gotten enough on my nerves and I have no choice but to kill you. Now say your goodbyes to this unfair world Miss Conway"
