In the future, a lone human ship Captain and his partner AI, out on a salvage recovery mission, will learn a bit more about each other while recovering a bit of the horrors of the past. There are some grizzly bits but nothing overt nor disgusting, so it should be readable by anyone without warning. Author's Note: while I'm not very pleased with my ending to this, I'll accept it as part of my learning to write better with time. This is part of my one story a month self challenge meant to inspire me to write more in the future.

The apocalypse left some survivors, and they turned to Mother for help. Now they are trying to take back the planet from the angels and demons that beleaguer those that remain. One woman confronts the powers that be in one final stand to give Mother back her home and her children.

When a disabled ship comes crashing down to the planet they're fighting over and all officers are called back for rescue, leaving the soldiers to hold the line until the ship smashes down on top of them, one platoon sargeant makes a hard decision to honor his fallen soldiers.
