Tragedy strikes again, and his mother comes down with cancer when he's 16. She's gone a year later. Wilbur likes to think that he handled it well. And yeah, maybe he was angry at the universe for a while, but who hasn't been? The important part is that he picked himself back up and let himself be happy. He hit a rough patch financially but finally managed to save enough to go to college. It'll be odd being there as a 23-year-old, but he can make it work. Not long after he makes it there, he meets his roommate Phil. If there was one thing he didn't expect, it was that he would find himself growing attached to Phil and Phil's family.
