** "Maximilian?" I blink at her silently. She just called my name. By my name. Instead of feeling repulsed and detested by that sound I instead can't feel anything anymore. All I can see is her. My breath stops for a moment again. Just like back in the tent. "Yes it's me." I say, quickly looking away from her side. "Why are you here?" She asks me coldly taking my hand away from her cheek. She then sits up straight in the sofa, far from me. I silently drop my hand back to my lap. I kind of felt disappointed. "Why can't I be here? Can't a husband visit his wife whenever he wants?" She shakes her head. "You're not like other husbands. And I'm not like other wives. You're a husband that's still hung up on their first love. And I'm a wife that wants nothing to do with you." She says with her tired eyes, after having slept only for 2 hours. _____________________________ Maximillian, the Emperor of the Kaisenarch Empire, who still love his first love. Elizabeth, the Empress that only wanted her husbands love She had taken years to realize, that maybe her marriage was always doomed, from the beginning. And her feelings will never be reciprocated. With the characters Maximillian and Elizabeth. I so badly wanted to see their relationship Develop. None of this is my own

READERS' FAVORITE FIVE STAR AWARD WINNER - As the daughter of a strong English baron, Isabel is compelled by peace negotiations to become the child-bride of the enemy, the powerful, handsome and fierce Scottish Laird of the Chattan clan, Alysandir. Her youth and his distaste for a marriage alliance with his enemy render her strenuous efforts to win the approval of her husband almost futile. Even though she failed him in a hopelessly complex situation, why would he allow his former fiancé to get away at an attempt to kill her? When her dying father calls her home to England, she is forced to be braver than her years as her exiled, murderous half-brother, Gilbert, attempts to wrest control of Bamborough Castle, their family home, from her father, who was determined to never allow Gilbert the inheritance. Could Alysandir, her wizened warrior husband soften her battle-hardened heart, protect her from her treacherous half-brother and win back her love? Growing up amid the border wars taught Isabel to be strong, cautious and adaptable. Fighting in those wars made Alysandir inflexible, distrustful but patient and brave. Could he secure his lands and keep his new bride safe from those who wished to harm her, or even protect her from herself? After breaking her, could he gather her back to himself and teach her to trust him before her half-brother and brother-in-law kill her over a piece of borderland?

Hope Hillburn was born to a life of servitude and never once questioned her role in society. As a lady's maid to Noelle Parrish, she had everything she wanted out of life; a secure and honorable post, a decent room to call her own, and ample time to write fantastical tales of winsome creatures while her mistress, Lady Noelle, attended the various society events offered by the ton. Lady Noelle Parrish knew that her father was anxious to see her wed but she never imagined he'd go behind her back and arrange for her to marry against her will, to a duke with a questionable reputation no less. Disheartened by the prospect of marrying a man she's never met and the possibility of foregoing a lifetime of love, Noelle makes the impulsive decision to flee England with an American gentleman she's only just met. There's only one problem... Lady Noelle's father, the Earl of Brattondale, would never permit her to marry an untitled American, nor was he willing to go back on his word to the duke. In her desperation, Lady Noelle convinces Hope to take her place after noticing an uncanny resemblance between them both. Against her own better judgment, Hope agrees to take Noelle's place when she realizes there's no other way for Noelle to flee to America without causing her family disgrace. Thrown into a life she has only ever viewed from the outside, Hope must convince everyone that she is a lady lest her farce be discovered. She is confident that she can handle society's strict rules of propriety but she soon learns that guarding her heart from falling in love with an incredibly handsome, self assured duke with a penchant for snarling isn't going to be quite as easy.

A younger sister cannot wed before an older sister. It's a law of their society, a rule vehemently obeyed by prominent families in the nobility, and it's always been Ella Harrington's buffer. Ella has never been interested in marrying for anything short of love itself. Unfortunately for her, love is a rarity in the marriages of the aristocracy. Fortunately for her, her sister Emily is precisely one year older than her and is the most unpleasant, disagreeable, sulking woman to ever debut in all of England. So Ella may never have to marry at all. A free woman, she enjoys her time on the sidelines and wishes for nothing more. That is, until a tall, dark, and brooding Duke comes to town alongside an old friend of her brother's. Suddenly, Ella finds herself questioning the antiquated marriage order rule as her buffer begins to feel more like a barrier. Not that it matters. The Duke isn't interested in her anyway. Right?

Elizbeth Humphrey wants a husband. Her expectations are not outlandish; all she asks is that he be reasonably handsome, reasonably wealthy and completely kind. Her brothers have offered their assistance, and it's given her hope that perhaps there is a man out there who might want her for a wife. But alas, the first man she meets after recommitting to the battle against spinsterhood is reasonably handsome, reasonably naked and completely soaked through and stranded on their front steps. He also has a head-wound and no memory of who he is, but Elizabeth Humphrey has larger mysteries to solve; namely, the mystery of who she might marry. Book 1 of the Humphrey Chronicles!
