The private boarding academy of Welton has opened its doors to female students. With this change, a new student from across the country is brought to the school grounds. Charlotte Lewis is a junior from Louisiana. She is reserved, overly observant, and hiding from a past that she cannot come to terms with. It also happens that she will be the only student of mixed race attending Welton Academy. Her introduction to a rambunctious group of boys, and an odd English teacher will change her view of the world and its obstacles.
