A short story (~4100 words) written for the December 2018 @ScienceFiction challenge, "The Song of Sqia'lon Seven". The consciousness robbing Soul Blight began on the seventh planet of the Sqia'lon system and then spread across the Sol Commonwealth. Stricken with the Blight, Tahn made the decision to deny the terrible disease from taking what little was left of his self. But a scarred woman came across him, and she had a song. Turning sixteen, the changeling fairy goes off to the university, the enchanted learning facility, E.L.F - As things are calm in the fairy kingdom, tragedy strikes the brethren and the empress must console one of them.

Sometimes life long connections are made in an instant. Once the bond is forged it can be stronger than anything else in the world. From sorrow, strength can emerge and a friendship can be born. The strong fire of kinship and understanding can burn brightly in the hearts of every living creature. Can the power of darkness, and the hearts filled with anger destroy the bonds that have been forged by emotions stronger than words? Or will light prevail over darkness?
