"What do you think?" asked the one-eyed grandma which pulled me back from my trance. "It's...it's just amazing and beautiful. I can't take my eyes off it," I wanted to wear it. That's where it actually belonged. Not in some small wooden box which shunned its brilliance. "You can have it for 30 province permits," she said. "30?!!" I exclaimed. All of a sudden, the necklace didn't look so appealing. Province permits were these expensive permits you needed to travel to other provinces. The amount of service hours required to get one was crazy. "Yes. As a discount I'll settle for 20... your choice. Take it or leave." "How about 15?" "Deal." ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Darkus is a planet existing millions of light years away from Earth in an entirely different galaxy. It is the abode of men and women gifted with certain powers. The planet is ruled by a council headed by a Riasto. And every three years, a selection committee chooses four residents from an alien planet and gives them the powers of a sorcerer and welcomes them as its citizens. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ #44 in planet - highest ranking so far 😄

When Fiona ends up at St. Lawrence Academy according to her mom's wishes, she isn't expecting what she finds. She can handle the school's private plane, that the academy is located on its own private island and she can even take the fact that she's the only transfer student they've had in years. What she can't handle is the fact she's the only human in school. Because St. Lawrence Academy isn't just for learning math, English, and art. No, it's a school for the supernatural to learn how to fit in among humans. Forced to hide what she is and pretend to be a dryad, something she'd never even heard of before, Fiona has to do her best to fit in or lose the only place she has to go.

A possible future in less than 500 words, if plastic wins. This was my entry for the WattPad/National Geographic #PlanetOrPlastic competition back in late 2018. It reached their Top 10 Submissions which, given that there appeared to be well over 5000 entries, was a very pleasant surprise! The competition itself had a limit of 500 words so, for those who keep asking if I intend continuing the story, the answer (for now!) is no - unless I can find a very good reason for adding any more. Many thanks to everyone reading and voting on this story and getting it to number 1 in the #sciencefiction category in May/June 2020! I did try to thank the voters individually on their pages but Wattpad have a daily limit on the number of times I'm allowed to do that and there are now too many of you (not that I'm complaining)! Here's the top 10 submissions page: https://www.wattpad.com/list/738243473-planetorplastic-top-10-submissions If you want to read the story in Polish please head over to https://www.wattpad.com/story/236405960-m%C4%85dro%C5%9B%C4%87-staro%C5%BCytnych-t%C5%82umaczenie-pl where @juliatlumaczy has done a fine job - thank you, Julia! @juliatlumaczy has now sent me a version of the cover she used for her Polish translation - thanks again, Julia! @alex_sokolova has also translated the story into Russian as well. You can read that here: https://www.wattpad.com/976002417-мудрость-древних - many thanks, Alex! We now have a third translation! @AlfonsoLucassen has kindly translated it into Spanish and you can find it here: https://www.wattpad.com/1063634347-la-sabidur%C3%ADa-de-los-antiguos

Computer updates are simple, right? That's not always the case when it involves a Spaceship's AI in the middle of deep space. We have always relied upon technology to travel through space, but sometimes that very same technology develops a mind of its own... *** Rachel, a junior assistant in the cargo bay, wasn't prepared for the spaceship's AI to gain awareness during what should have been a routine update, nor had anyone expected it to take exception to the crew and the crates of illegal cargo aboard. Rachel races against time to try and get life-saving systems back online while stranded in the middle of deep space. Unfortunately for her, the AI can access every system, door, and airlock. As truths emerge, the AI realizes that even computers can make miscalculations, and it focuses on the young woman who had dared to confront it. Rachel is left floundering when the AI decides that she would make an excellent captain, albeit one in need of training. As she struggles to learn her new duties and dodge shady government groups, she must ultimately discover what it truly means to be a Starship Captain. ------- There is no romance in this story.
