Logan is forced into fighting for Germany in World War II, but has a feeling something about Hitler isn't quite right, and intends to find out for himself what the truth really is. Vivian's mother is dead, and with her father off at war, fighting for the French, she's stuck at an orphanage, that treats her horribly. She's escaped twice, and was recaptured twice. But the French General strikes a bargain with her, for her freedom. Ruth's had her home and her parents taken away from her, and is left with her older brother, Ethan. But when he has to leave, he doesn't plan on taking Ruth with him. Ethan doesn't want to abandon his little sister, but he feels the need to contribute to the war. He leaves Belgium, and gives Ruth to an atheist family, who will protect her from Hitler's hate of Jews.
