Nico hates Percy. That's just common sense throughout the camp. Nico is like a hermit. He doesn't talk much. He doesn't do much. When Will Solace hit on him, Nico turned him down in front the entire camp. He doesn't do people. But he hates Percy. That's what they think, at least. In all reality, the two demigods are in love with each other. They just won't get over themselves and admit it.

When a game of 7 Minutes In Heaven ends sourly, things between Nico and Percy get... Weird.

Had you told me 5 years ago that I would have friends, I would've laughed in your face. If somebody said I'd meet my dad one day, I'd tell them he's dead and it's never going to happen. If I would've known I'd had a girlfriend, I would've gagged because I'm gay. But these things all happened. And sometimes, that's good. I have people I can talk to. But with that, it's people I can't talk to about some things. Things like my depression. The fact that Gabe abused me as a kid. The idea that I'm gay. Because when they found out, what happens? I've lost friends over it before. They're no different.

Welcome home. It's been almost a year, and it's about time for everything to calm down. It's about time for this bullshit to end.

After Annabeth's death at the end of the Giant War, Percy goes home and grieves, learning to move on with his live. Meanwhile at camp, Nico decided to stay and while he didn't come out, he still had a good year. Now it's June and everyone is back on the Argo II for a check in mission just to make sure everything is okay over in Europe. Without Annabeth, Percy's doing okay, although the others get a bit worried. In all reality, though, he's just happy that Nico's back.

After finding out a deep secret that Percy carries with him, Nico decided to entrust in telling him that he's gay, which goes over better than expected. Once they confess that they like each other, it turns into a game in how to keep themselves in the closet and to keep their relationship away from their friends. Things get violent.

All Leo wanted to do was hang out with Nico for the day. But of course, it couldn't be that simple.

In a story where Percy and Annabeth don't end up together, things are a lot more different.

After Percy and Annabeth break up, Percy goes to talk to Nico and it doesn't go exactly according to plan. Nico and Percy started to avoid each other, everyone else is torn apart about the situation, and nobody really knows what to interpret it after Nico is outed.
