The Shimmers in the Night is the second novel in the Dissenters series following The Fires Beneath the Sea. This might be the worst weekend of Cara's life. Her mother is still missing and her brother Jax is off at "smart kid boot camp" in Boston. When he texts Cara asking to be rescued, she and her two best friends, Hayley and Jaye, go into action. The so-called boot camp is actually a front for Cara's mother's organization, which is fighting a force which brooks no dissent against its wish to make the planet over in its own image - to "clean it up," leaving no space for anything else, animal, insect, or human. And human doesn't really mean what everyone thinks it does ...

Forced to sail to the sun-drenched kingdom of Ardalone to fulfill a marriage alliance, Prince Thomas of Pretania must choose one of the Ardalonian princesses to be his wife. But every choice comes with consequences. Spurned by Thomas' older brother, Princess Dulciana stands to inherit the throne as she is eldest, but only if she marries an Ardalonian noble. Second-in-line Prince Frederico will do anything to ensure that doesn't happen. But beyond the palace gates, a rebellion is stirring...and if there's one thing Prince Thomas excels at, it's stirring up trouble. WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON SERIES! (Though I'm going to do my best to ensure you can read as a standalone if you don't want to read the first two.)

~ Book 1 and Book 2 are interchangeable - you can read either one first ~ A cranky dragon, an unhelpful fairy, a werewolf with an attitude and rather unexpected fall out of a window are all that are needed to start a six month journey of a lifetime. The Firelands was once the great Realm of the Dragon, but when Fate abandoned it without a leader, it fell from grace and is now dying - and there is no one who can save it. Well, no one who has any idea what they're doing at least. There is, of course, The Realmlore. Until fifty years ago, there had always been The Realmlore, ruled by the Child. With this leader, The Firelands could be saved but a Child has not been seen in fifty years. Until now.

Chronos is the Keeper of Time, immortal and immobile, his body locked fast to the Heart of Time. His is the duty to ensure that a balance of time is kept, creation, change, adaption and destruction all in due time. But then something starts to poison the flow of the Heart and Chronos has to reach out to the one person he never wanted to face again. The man who bound him to an eternity as a statue sentinel; his son. But in the modern age, even the god of the underworld has to earn a living, and as the CEO of Charron Shipping Industries, Mr. Hades can't fulfill his debt directly. Instead he calls on mortal descendant, Ananke, who has no clue of her Olympian heritage. She'd been on a professional mountain search and rescue team, until one day she started to see things that weren't there. She felt like she was slowly losing her mind until many times removed great grandfather Hades himself hunts her down at a cabin and explains the deal to her. Still doubting her sanity, and his, she agrees to be Chronos' eyes, ears and hands until the crisis is averted. Chronos needs her to be able to blend into the many different pieces of time in vastly different paths of the universe and that means he has to be inside her head almost all the time. It's uncomfortably intimate for both of them, especially when it becomes apparent that Chronos's body is dying along with the Heart of Time.
