This story combines Disney's Beauty and the Beast and the romantic relationship between Merlin and Arthur from the BBC series Merlin. What if Arthur was the prince who was cursed to be a beast? And what if Merlin, the average, "small village" boy, was supposedly the one destined to free him? *Completed*

Merlin sells newspapers on the streets in the late 1890s, and as a newsboy, he is homeless, living on the streets, saving the little money he earns to pay for food when he can. Then, one day, he sees Arthur, who is undoubtedly rich, but is like a golden sun in Merlin's smog-filled world. Merlin wants to bring Arthur flowers, but being so poor, he can only afford to go to a nearby field and pick a bunch of dandelions, not knowing they're considered weeds... Just random Merthur AU's that come into my head that I will write in my free time. Angst it rare. Fluff and smut is not. Probably a lot of post reincarnation AU's. Not all of them. Read if you would like, these are mainly just for me and to help my writing abilities and whatever. Winter falls on Camelot. It falls to Merlin to keep Arthur company as the search for Morgana becomes increasingly desperate. 6000 words, Merlin/Arthur. Set in the break between series 2 & 3. I had to make a judgement call on whether we’re dealing with Yule or Christmas in this Merlin verse. I went with Yule (there was reasoning, but I won’t bore you with it). Chapter beginnings taken from Doubt Comes In, by Anais Mitchell, from my favourite album this year Hadestown (it’s a folk opera about Orpheus and Eurydice - so that’s the very definition of not for everyone but its weird and creepy and awesome)

It's just an ordinary in Camelot…well as normal as things get around here. Arthur and Merlin are out on a hunting trip by themselves and all seems well…until they are ambushed by a group of Morgana's men. The duo are separated, Arthur just escaping, but Merlin being caught. They take him back to Morgana, where she proceeds to torture him by twisting his memories. Every happy moment, every sad moment, every moment ever spent between Arthur and Merlin is twisted in Merlin's mind, causing him to believe that Arthur wants him dead. Eager to see Arthur's reaction, she lets Merlin go, making it seem that he escaped. When a search patrol finds him stumbling, weak, in the Valley of the Fallen Kings they approach him delightedly, glad to see he's safe. But when they learn the truth will things ever be the same between Merlin and Arthur again, or will he fear Arthur forevermore?
