Harlowe didn't mean to fall in love with Zoe- but when does anyone ever mean to fall in love? Somewhere between the costumes, and the dances, and the little touches backstage, Harlowe had let herself slip. Zoe was an older girl, with her portrait in pink feathers and pearls stretch across the outside of the club, but she never bit her tongue. She told Harlowe she was pretty and talented- she told Harlowe she was special- and after long enough Harlowe started believing her. Zoe could convince Harlowe to do anything. That's how everything changed. * * * "Why did you leave Saturday?" Zoe asked suddenly, her voice still warm and sedated like her body in Harlowe's lap. Harlowe chewed her bottom lip. She didn't like lying, but she was good at half truths. "My mom was blowing up my phone. She grounded me." She watched Zoe's features twist into something unpleasant, and Harlowe ran a finger over her cheek in vain, trying to smooth her frown. "You're eighteen." Zoe reasoned. Harlowe shrugged though. "I'm also trying not to get kicked out." "That's not fun." Zoe hummed after a minute, closing her eyes to savour the feeling of Harlowe's fingers twisting through her hair and the rain splattering at their toes.
