What if a work of fiction wasn't fiction at all? What if we only thought it was fiction because it was written down, and we were separated from it by the page? Isabel Darrow, troubled by her past and feeling disconnected from the world, likes her doctor's suggestion that the world of fiction might become reality. She likes the idea of waking up in the middle of her favourite book with the handsome, brooding Mr Thornton glaring at people in his mill yard, but she doesn't worry about the foul air of dirty, smoky Milton, because it's not real, and it was written over 160 years ago. But then she takes a trip to Oxford, and gets waylaid along the way, finding herself greeted at a smoky train station, by a man called Mr Hale, who claims to be her godfather. When Isabel meets Margaret and first sees Mr Thornton, she's determined to help the course of love run a little more smoothly for the two stubborn lovers. But Gaskell hadn't accounted for a second young lady in the Crampton house, and whilst Isabel tries to adapt to a life where women have no independence or equality, Milton must adapt to her. The question is, will Mr Thornton adapt to her, or Margaret, first?

When John and Margaret catch a fleeting glimpse of each other at a railway station in the Midlands after months apart, it gives John the impetus to travel to London in the hope of meeting Margaret again. When he impulsively proposes to her and is accepted, it seems that their happiness is complete. As they adjust to their new situation as an engaged couple, both of them find themselves having to deal with the doubts and opposition of others as well as having to resolve old issues and face new ones as they come to learn that falling in love is just the beginning. This story picks up at the point towards the end of the BBC adaptation when Margaret goes to visit the mill while John is in Helstone. It is based upon both the adaptation and the novel. PLEASE NOTE: The chapters of this story tend, as they go on, to become very long. I have considered making them shorter for posting on here, but have decided against it as I think they work well as they stand at the moment. Please also note that this story is still ongoing. I will complete it at some point, but cannot say when at the moment.

John Thornton and Margaret Hale are happily in love and going to get married. But an accident leaves John with partial memory loss and what he has forgotten is his life and love for his bride to be. Margaret's whole world seems to come crashing down around her. This modern story is based upon and inspired by E. Gaskell's classic novel North & South.

An alternate imagining of Mrs. Gaskell's story, assuming Margaret had been hurt more seriously on the day of the riot. Intertwines elements of both the book and the BBC series, but focuses less on angst and more on the relationship of John Thornton and Margaret Hale.

Different take on North and South. It starts when Mr. Thornton leaves Margaret after his disaster of proposal. She acidently falls and loses her memory of the proposal and the day of the riot. Will that be his chance to make it right this time?

NORTH AND SOUTH FANFICTION: John Thornton, a rich factory owner in 19th century Milton, happens to stumble across a bleeding woman in a graveyard. When she wakes up, she cannot recall anything from her life, not even her name. Now in Milton, she has to find a way to keep herself afloat in the harsh factory town. A short one shot and continuation of the story by Elizabeth Gaskell. This is my first time writing fanfiction after years of reading it. I might continue writing this story since I'm very interested in what M and J's life in Miton will be like :)

The shock of sudden death of Mr. Hale crushes Mr. Bell, rendering him unable to bring the sad news to Margaret himself. He is forced to delegate the terrible duty to the only one he can entrust it: his friend and tenant Mr. Thornton.

I love both the book and miniseries North & South, and it has inspired me to finally start writing, with a sequel. It starts at the last scene in the movie, a scene I have probably watched hundreds of times, and mostly draws from the miniseries rather than the book Enjoy, and please comment..I'm interested to know what you think!
