When Sherlock is left alone, without a case, and without John, he falls back to old habits, habits John is yet to find out about. Sherlock falls into a put of self loathing and John is the only one who can pull him out.

He is lavish. Masterful. Intellectual, inexplicable, overt. Sexual. Sherlock Holmes defines extravagance. He isn't exactly the best thing for John's tireless, bland stability. John works the nine to five and tries not to lose sleep over the small things - like the labor of his fiancée's expectations, and the sirens that fill his head with noise after curfew. He finds comfort in art, and drinking. Besides the war making its presence known, slowly creeping its black tendrils into the heart of Bristol - John's life is quiet. Given that, he's not surprised when he is dragged into Sherlock Holmes's orbit. There is no manual to help him navigate the moment their eyes first meet; he presents himself as the perfect distraction, a beautiful incendiary miracle. John thinks that maybe he was hoping for this, because: Sherlock is potent, and inflammatory, and perfectly willing to make John's life hell for his own self-indulgent pleasure. With one touch, John's sense of self is corrupted. And what does it matter if the world implodes? It was never kind to them to begin with.

One day while John naps, Sherlock gently kisses him on his lips, unaware that John is actually awake and that this single gesture will cause everything John has known to be questioned. Note: Hi, this is the Author many years later! I just want to say that I haven't read this in YEARS (I was probably in junior high or high school when I wrote this) and I noticed all the comments in the story and I want to apologize for any harm I've caused. I didn't realize at the time that this was non-consensual and I'm sorry for that. I didn't have a good grasp on that type of thing yet but now that I do, I cringe looking back on this! I don't want to take the story down, but I do want to offer a Content Warning. The kiss is non-con. John is sleeping when Sherlock kisses him. Just know that I meant no harm when I wrote this since I didn't understand the implications, and because so, feel free to imagine whatever you like to make up for it. This isn't really a Johnlock story, but I do ship that, so there might be some hints of it. I'll try not to let it creep into my writing too much. This is a continuing story, set about somewhere in the second season. Maybe in between the Hound of Baskerville and the Reichenbach Fall.. I've no clue what it's going to be about yet. It's probably going to be sad, so prepare yourself for feels. That's all I have to say for this Sherlock fanfiction.
