A set of chess stands at my bedside table, the white row perfectly in line while one of the black knights already moved. I furrow my eyebrows at the wrongdoing but then remind myself of one thing; he doesn't play by the rules. Picking up the small letter in the middle of the checkerboard, I keep the creeping fear at bay and read the four words followed by his signature, surprisingly neatly written. "Prepare to be checkmated - Nick."

He reaches out his hand and gently touches my cheek and I take a step back, my eyes full of anger and fear. "Ah, feisty one, aren't you?"
