In a world where superpowers make you either a celebrity or a criminal, Aether chose a long time ago where she stands. A metahuman who can change her appearance, Aether is currently on top of the game, the public face of government-sponsored superheroes in United America. She does have her share of problems: petty criminals, annoying coworkers, supervillains who have escaped justice for far too long... and the growing sense that being on top of the game just means having a target on her back. At the other end of the scale, the villain Lucid has just been forced out of hiding and back into the game - by a reporter who paid for her nosiness with her life. Lucid reluctantly joins up with the other supervillains and is immediately sucked into a convoluted scheme that could change the definition of superhumanity. Aether is having trouble trusting her teammates as they scramble to keep innocent civilians out of the crossfire. The question is: if Lucid just wants to quit the game, why is she so hell-bent on taking Aether out with her?

The Time Machine is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, published in 1895 and written as a frame narrative. Wells is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel by using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposely and selectively forwards or backward in time. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle. The Time Machine has been adapted into three feature films of the same name, as well as two television versions, and a large number of comic book adaptations. It has also indirectly inspired many more works of fiction in many media productions.

Some fates are worse than death--survival is one of them. In the two hundred years since humanity left the Earth's surface to live in the sky, life on the ground faded to a myth, a tragic memory from which they severed themselves to survive. They floated above continents turned to sand and lands swallowed by the seas, watched storm after storm rage against their cities and their monuments until they broke apart the last vestiges of civilization in penance for generations of human greed. As a lightning harvester charged with flying her ship into these storms for energy, Raina has seen more of the planet than most. She has spent her entire life soaring above its craters and scars, studying the gaping wounds of human devastation, as she honed her skills and became the youngest captain in storm-chaser history. Her ship has flown for generations. Her skills are unparalleled. But none of that matters the day they go down. ~ Praise for Earth, After: "I'm so not ready for this ending.
