When you grow up in a small town in Northern England there isn't much to do.

The year is 1975. Young, promiscuous and tenacious Jane comes home from her three-month stay at a mental institution to a home where she is not understood and to friends she does not have. When she meets her intriguing, handsome, and very married neighbor George, an intense relationship and infatuation occurs between the two.

While Violet tries to fend off Alex and his baggage that includes kingpins, drugs, and money, her world is turned upside down.
