When the dangerous rogue dragon Anya crash lands in an isolated mountain village during a snowstorm, Kiri saves her life. Anya awakens seemingly cured of her madness and in thanks offers to show Kiri the country outside her village. Kiri seizes the opportunity. At the royal court, Kiri learns that the construction of the Great Mountain Road has opened the way to dangerous magic. One has already been murdered because of it-and with the murderer still on the loose, Kiri realizes Anya may be the next target. To protect Anya, Kiri begins her own search for the murderer, and for those seeking to profit by harvesting the magic in the mountains. To find the answers, she will have to follow the trail of Pristina Aikaterine, a long-vanished member of a league devoted to the hunting of magical creatures. Meanwhile, 200 years in the past, Pristina races to prevent the rising civil war.

I'm not who they think I am. A docile girl who meekly obeys her stepmother and stepsisters. Some kind of sick angel who cheerfully bears their mistreatment. That's what I WANT them to think. Because then they won't suspect what I'm really up to. The ball, the prince - it's all part of my plan to come out on top. Stepmother and her demented daughters will pay for every floor I have scoured, every sneer I have borne. They don't know about the white magic, how I use it to enhance myself. They can't see that my heart is black as midnight, rotten as a poisoned apple. They're about to find out.

Four teens. Four reasons to escape Daedalus Station--the dead end outpost of far flung empire. One derelict ship. One mistake that propels them halfway across the galaxy. Learning to work together as a crew may be the easy part because if the ship doesn’t kill them, the universe will. (Original cover art by Chris Howard, http://the0phrastus.typepad.com/) NEWS! Almost exactly one year from when I started writing DERELICT at Readercon 2012, the story has been revised and polished with wonderful feedback from my beta readers and my agent. It's going out on submission to editors and publishers beginning this coming week (mid June, 2013) and I couldn't be more thrilled! In preparation, I had to take the story down. My apologies for that, but as a consolation prize, I've updated the first three chapters to reflect the revised story and kept Chris Howard's amazing art to accompany them. Serializing the first draft of this story was a wonderful experience and I thank you, my readers, for your support and encouragement. Keep your fingers crossed for this one! And I'll keep you posted.
