"Why do you believe in such... such... preposterous things!" Evangeline wailed. Her cheeks were rosy with anger and she was clutching her white satin gloves so hard, I was sure they would be permanently wrinkled. Just another thing for her to throw a fit about. Of course Evangeline didn't believe in anything she couldn't see, she was just like her mother after all. She wouldn't understand, and she didn't have to. She was never a part of my family, and she never would be, as far as I was concerned. I was going to find Belle, even if I had to do it alone. I pulled my cloak over my shoulders and moved towards the door, resting my hand on the knob. I turned back to face the Evangeline, looking down my nose at her. That only made her even more mad, and I saw her chest, neck and the rest of the her face blotch into a deep crimson. The color was almost as dark as her dress. "Why do drowning men still open their mouths and try to breathe?"
