I'm standing in the gateway to the larger ballroom, almost too far away for my weak eyes to see the three figures that glide onto the stage. The King and Queen walk side by side until they come to their thrones, the Prince walking about five feet behind and moving towards the smaller throne to the King's left. The King and Queen sit down on their thrones in unison. The Prince doesn't. Even I can see the way his shoulders are bristling, a sort of confused wonder dawning on his face. And I would swear he is looking directly at me. //// Lee Collins wants to help her sister, Lucy. She has a vision of a future away from their dad, where Lucy could be healthy and they would have some chance of happiness. When Lee's only friend helps her sneak into the royal ball on the minuscule chance that an attending doctor would be willing to help, Lee ends up fleeing the party early, chased by none other than her mate. Lee finds herself locked in from all sides, desperate to escape the suffocating implications of a mate but frantic to fight for a future for her sister that she still believes possible. Working in the Royal Palace to save escape money is a terrible idea when you have a controlling father, but it's an even worse idea when the mate that you're avoiding is the Prince. //Marked Mature just in case for violence. general trigger warning. He is the alpha. He is ruthless, bitter, and cold. He is everything I want, but can't have. He is my savior and I his demise. He was beautiful, painstakingly so. Soft, short black hair that was softer than the feathers of a pampered swan. Tanned, olive toned skin that had been kissed by the sun. Features so striking, so remarkable the angels cried from his beauty. His cheekbones were sharp, accented by forest green eyes rimmed with even darker lashes. His face had been carved delicately by the gods themselves, leaving ruins in the wake of anyone who came into contact with him. The face of an angel, the body of a god, and the anger of a thousand men. Gabriel.

"What are you doing here?" he questioned, his voice a husky of depth. "This is reserved land, tourists aren't allowed here." "W-who are you?" He wasn't the uniform that the Rangers wore, so I knew he wasn't a part of them. He was a random man. If I wasn't supposed to be out here, then he wasn't either. He had to be at least a half a foot taller than me. His hair was tousled over his head, in an unmistakable windblown quiff. In the dense lighting of the woods, his eyes were piercing as he looked me over. The confident stance and his muscular body left me feeling overwhelmed. He could be a mass murdered and easily able to overpower me. I didn't know. Just being around left me feeling slightly terrified. He radiated authority and power. "There are wolves running in these woods, períergi. It's not fairytale. It's real." "Of course wolves aren't fairytale," I retorted. "They're a protected species by the feds. If you'll point me in the right direction, I'll be going back to the park grounds." I looked around trying to find the best route of escape. Every angle I turned revealed gleaming gold eyes in the shadows of the woods. It appeared as if a whole pack of wolves had surrounded us. A small whimper escaped my throat as I looked back to him. His eyes darkened slightly as he stared into the distance at the wolves. He stepped forward immediately once again invading my personal space. His nostrils flared briefly before his arms wrapped around me tightly, pulling me into his chest. His head lowered slightly and I felt his chin rest on my head. "Den tha mas vlápsei. Wolves are social creatures by nature," he said. "You'll get used to being around them. Eláte se mas." Shock nor horror could describe how I felt. Wolves moved from the shadows into the light. Their muscular lean bodies moved with a lethal grace. They continued coming forward until we were both surrounded. Close enough to us that I felt the breath of two wolves brushing against me.
