"Who would you live for? Who would you die for? . . . And would you ever kill?" Some people are just born with tragedy in their blood. Dorienne and her best friends definitely fall into that category, and have spend much of their lives recovering from surviving. When someone dares to hurt those they love, the gifted teens commit an untraceable act of vengeance and justice. But the harm has already been done, and in the aftermath they lose one of their own, leaving them reeling. Now in their early twenties, they find themselves shakily rising once more. New friends bring some much-needed happiness into their lives, as well as unexpected romance . . . even as love forms new ties within the group. Maybe there can be life after loss, however different it may be. "Okay, I know that there are terrible, terrible people out there, but listen. I also know that there are people who stop and stare at tiny plants growing out of sidewalk cracks, people who laugh so loud they snort, people who compliment others randomly, people who take pictures of their friends because they love seeing their friends happy, people who ramble about things that they're passionate about, people who blush and stutter, people who are kind, people who are warm, people who love and love and love and love." -Anonymous

Colleen Baker is the black sheep of a neighborhood-envied family. While the gated community offers the Bakers an elevator lift to the top of every social ladder, Colleen clings to the lower rungs. This is much to the dismay of her people-pleasing parents, who seek nothing more than the forced friendships as self-validation. When her unorthodox ways pose too great a threat to the indomitable Baker name, it is time for her to be shipped off to boarding school. Upon arrival, Colleen's entire outlook on life is changed. Amidst a haze of fragmenting relationships, she collects her serrated remains and pieces them together to discover herself, all the while becoming familiar with what true pain and love looks like, leading her to the friendships of a lifetime. Follow Colleen on her obstacle-ridden journey to realization in 'Dissonance'. #27 in #FREETHELGBT 04/30/19 Copyright 2015 persian_pink Original cover photo by Yoann Boyer

I think I am the best hunter, with or without a familiar. Familiars usually become romantically involved so you must choose the opposite gender as your familiar if you want to become romantically involved. Loves too trifling and a waste of time frankly. I've chosen a powerful familiar, one that will suit my purposes. But recently I've been feeling different about that. In a world where I'm a rare species, it's hard to find somebody to relate. I found somebody, who is just as special as me,and just as powerful. Lilith, a powerful demon with an unknown origin turns out to be my familiar. But not just any familiar, a true familiar. Together we try to survive through academy life. Alone, I try to fight her awful cooking and she...well, she doesn't seem to be fighting with anything. I'm starting to question myself and whether the path I chose was the right one. Hopefully not, or all will be in vain.
