On my thirteenth birthday, I stared down at the body laying on the group. A small puddle of dark liquid slowing surrounding myself touched the tips of my converse.
Mercy was foreign but given. The sensation of touch returning to my senses was first, of hot, smooth liquid coating any skin not hidden by garments. Eerie silence came next before slowly returning my sense of hearing. The slow sound of thick liquid dripping onto the hard cold cement ground, the wind from outside yelling through the bare trees of winter. The sensation of getting burned without the pain filled my thoughts. It was itchy, endless and dyed anything it touched a deep red you couldnt get rid of. I walked over to the dirty bucket of water and stared at my reflection for a moment. When you wash and pour cold water over a fresh burn, the pain disappears momentarily, but as soon as cold water is removed from the burn the pain and memories return. The burn marked your skin and sometimes never healed or fully disappears.
Anything horrible you can think of, I've seen it or have done with my own bare hands and as stained as thy are, the scariest part is that I'm starting to like it as the years add up.
Everyday is a different day, I push away the black hole that surrounds me, to not completely lose myself to my own mind, my only focus is to be able to take a full breath of air, to be able to have my lungs fully expand and I relish in that.
What I do isn't living, it's just surviving the day.
That's why I have become stone.
