He didn't realize that by watching his brother walk out the bedroom door, he sentenced his brother to a life time in pain. On the night Rin left he stumbled his way into Ghenna itself. There he discovered that he enjoys training in Hell instead of becoming the hero people tell him he should be. To him, there is no point in being the good guy if no one really wants him to be.
