It's been 10 years since Sarah was brought to the labyrinth, and a lot has changed since then. She got married and has mostly suppressed her labyrinth memories. Jareth on the other hand has gotten worse. He stopped caring for the Underground after Sarah left. Then he got cancer about 8 years after she left, and he just wants to see her one more time in case he dies. I'm not really sure if this takes place now or in 1996, it's a little weird.
