Trapped in the woodlands, Ivy's only hope of going home is to escape the faerie who enchants her into loving him, blinding her to what he is--monstrous. *** A dark fortress of trees twisted and crippled by time, the Clearwater, Connecticut, woods is no place for two teenage girls. The legends claim it's haunted. Fed up with being kept inside after dark, fearing the monster will take them, sixteen-year-old Ivy Farewell and her best friend Margaret set out to prove everyone wrong--that the ghost of Clearwater isn't a ghost. And the voice that has been calling to Ivy after dark is simply a trick of the wind. But the woods are deeper than Ivy imagined, each turn bringing them farther from home. When they end up lost their only hope is in each other. All seems undone when Ivy falls ill with a fever, until a stranger persuades them back to his cabin. Under his spell, Ivy falls into a deep and complicated love, a love so treacherous it blinds her to what he truly is--a monster. Copyright © 2023 T.A. Short stories are a great place to experiment with concepts and ideas and this is a short piece (even for a short story) which combines those end-of-the-world 80s movies with a few of the many conspiracies that are out there. Sorry if that offends anyone. Actually no I'm not. If you don't like it, don't read it. The story isn't true, it's not my opinion or in any way meant to attack anyone. It's just one of those "What if..." scenarios and I think it's a little humorous too. If anyone is interested, I might write more of these - I've got a few ideas in mind. Please let me know!

Bowen was a lonely girl who filled her days by running down rural country roads. But that quickly changed when she discovered a decomposing body in an old shack. But, somehow, he wasn't dead. In fact, he was getting better, his fatal wounds healing themselves from beyond the grave. And from the moment he opened his eyes Bowen was dragged into a terrifying world she never could have imagined. *Completed* This is a FIRST DRAFT of my novel, of which the final version is available on Kindle and free on Kindle Unlimited. {WATTY'S 2020 WINNER & EDITOR'S PICK.} Hopeless romantic and aspiring writer Mare Atwood has fallen madly in love with her childhood correspondent. There's only one catch-she doesn't know who he is. When the beaus of Star's Crossing return from boarding school to begin the courting season, Mare is determined to uncover the identity of her writer, flout her family's intentions of orchestrating an advantageous marriage, and procure the life of writing and romance she's always sought. But as in the tales she so adores, it won't be easy. Galas, masquerades, picnics, and hunts-alongside an old friend, a former teacher, and an unlikely ally, Mare delves into an investigation that leaves her torn between three clever, deceptive, and wealthy young bachelors. If Mare can confirm which is her writer and claim his hand before the courting season ends, she'll have her wish: the love of her life, a valuable marriage, and a future of writing romance. But with the eyes of Star's Crossing upon her, a business plot forcing invisible hands, and the unwillingness of her writer to come forward-Mare's future may not end in triumph, but tragedy. Set against the gilded Victorian backdrop of coastal Connecticut and lush with pre-war luxury, fans of Jane Austen, Margaret Mitchell, and Louisa May Alcott are sure to enjoy this lighthearted, lyrical novel of young love, independence, and identity. #1 Literary #1 YA Romance #1 Victorian #1 Lyrical #8 General Fiction
