In the aftermath of a devastating event, a once-close family is torn apart by the burden of an ancient feud between their ancestors. The father, along with his sons, seeks refuge in the depths of South America, while the mother takes to the road across the United States, hiding with their only daughter. Five years later, a single phone call summons the brothers back to the U.S., urgently needed to help their sister. But when they arrive, they discover she isn't the only one in need of their assistance. There's someone else-someone they knew existed but had never met: their youngest sister, Estella. She was the child their mother was pregnant with when she fled their family home in Connecticut so many years ago. Now, Estella's world has been turned upside down, and the family is thrust into a heart-wrenching reunion. Told through the innocent eyes of a five-year-old girl, this is a story of a broken family struggling to protect one another from the cruel forces that have torn them apart. Will the innocence of a child be enough to heal the wounds of the past, or has time already sealed their fate forever?

It isn't until the strange and confusing Santiago Vicario pops back into his life that things start to look up. For both him and Milo. They didn't end up in the same space on purpose. Brooklynn is the quiet type. Not shy... just tired. Tired in the "life been heavy for a while now" way. He minds his business, goes to work, comes home, and keeps his world small because that's how he breathes. Azyir is the opposite. Loud, funny, always in motion. ADHD running the wheel every day. Talks so much he forgets to say what he really means. Laughs loud so nobody asks if he's okay. They sit in the same trig class at their HBCU, but they don't talk. They don't dislike each other either. They just... live in two different worlds. Messiah Markell is their professor. Older, calm, strict in the quiet way that makes people sit up straighter. He owns a club downtown called Desirable, but in class he keeps everything controlled. He doesn't like watching people drown in silence or noise. He sees them both slipping. Not failing. Slipping. So he tells them to stay after class. Every day. Not for tutoring. Not for discipline. Just to sit, breathe, work, or not work. A room where nobody has to force themselves to be "okay." And somehow, without anybody planning it... The quiet one. The loud one. And the man who teaches them how to stay. Start learning how to need each other. Not in a fast way. Not in a dramatic way. In the way real connections happen: Slow glances. Shared exhaustion. Walking home together because home doesn't feel safe tonight. Sitting in silence that doesn't hurt. Being seen without having to explain. This is a story about: Black boy rest. Soft dominance. Messy feelings. Learning how to stay present. No fake deep. No forced love. Just real people figuring out how to breathe.

Cee Ayers doesn't let people in-he's got walls built from years of learning that trust is dangerous. Zeph Carter doesn't need an invitation-he sees through the silence, through the sarcasm, and meets Cee exactly where he is. What starts as an easy friendship shifts into something heavier, something neither of them expected. But love-real love-means letting yourself be seen, even when it's terrifying. Sample Scene: Cee was sprawled on Zeph's bed, noise-canceling headphones on, iPad in hand, locked into his game. He barely noticed when the mattress dipped, barely reacted when Zeph's warmth pressed against him. Then Zeph slid on top of him. Cee exhaled through his nose, adjusting his grip on the iPad, ignoring the weight pressing him into the mattress. A slow, deliberate kiss landed on his neck. Then another. Cee tapped his screen. "Move." Zeph didn't. Instead, he bit down gently, then soothed the spot with his tongue. Cee tensed. "Zeph." Zeph hummed against his skin, pressing more kisses, dragging his lips up the side of Cee's throat. His hands settled on Cee's ribs, thumbs rubbing slow circles. Cee's fingers twitched around the iPad. He tried to focus. He really did. Then Zeph bit again, harder this time. Cee sighed, dropping the iPad onto his chest and yanking off the headphones. "You deadass?" Zeph grinned against his skin. "Been deadass." Cee huffed, tilting his head to the side in surrender. "You so fuckin' annoying." Zeph just chuckled, lips finding Cee's jaw. "Yeah, but you love me though."
