She was transported to a road on another dimension after jumping off the cliff to save her dearest friend. She cried for help and fortunately the Heartfilia couple were there. Her friend died shortly at the hospital and feeling sorry and without a guardian, the couple decided to adopt her. At ten, her adopted mother, Layla Heartfilia, died from an unknown illness. She was able to take possession of all of her celestial keys, but was shut away from her adopted father's heart. At eleven, she ran away from home yet after regretting that decision, she tried to go back but a pack of wolves started to chase her. Lucy reseves a necklace from her mother on her 10th birthday. After Layla died Lucy decided to join Fairy Tail, the number 1 guild in all of Fiore.
