Technology is a powerful tool. Some seek to harness its potential, while others fear it, and want it destroyed. Magic is also a powerful tool. Unlike technology, however, the people of Hanori are comfortable with magic. They use it in their everyday lives and even in law enforcement. To them, technology is dangerous and magic is sacred. This world is tested when a young adult named Jason wakes one day to find he had been cybernetically enhanced. His arm replaced with metal, he is lost and confused. Finding himself at an academy for adventurers, Jason and a party of fledgling heroes are cast into a journey to stop a warlock hellbent on destroying all technology. Will Jason find the courage and power he needs to save his now Metalborn life?

This is a small part of my main novel, Metalborn, that I've decided to write separately in order to practice character interactions before continuing the full novel. The calm tides of Hanori are threatened once again as reports of theft come in from the bustling port town of Silvermouth. Mana crystals, a valuable energy source, are disappearing every night and threaten many vital businesses. Jason, a strange cyborg, and his party of rookie adventurers decide to take it upon themselves to travel to the town and solve the case. Will they prevail, or be swallowed by the sea?
