De half elven leiden een nomadisch bestaan en houden zich buiten de conflicten en beschermen alleen hun eigen ras. Zolang zij en hun bossen met rust gelaten worden zullen ze geen contact zoeken met andere rassen. De Anwanamë clan is anders. Woonachtig in een landhuis diep in de bossen, worden ze vanaf kinds af aan opgeleid tot sluipmoordenaar. Het zijn stuk voor stuk huurlingen en koelbloedige doders, ongeëvenaard in hun vaardigheden. Bij de Anwanamë staat familie hoog in het vaandel, familie dood nooit familie, maar niet volledig dood is dan ook de enige regel. Als Finrod vertrekt, worden de onderlinge relaties nog intenser en zijn oudere zus Ruwina raakt steeds verder verstrikt in de intriges en leugens van haar familie.
