Even better than normal. She was a social butterfly, got good grades and the had best family a 12 year old could dream of. She always knew what was happening. But things started going downhill when her parents disappeared. With no relatives or friends who could take her in she bounced from one foster home to another. And Ruby lost something else. Her sense of reality. She found her only comfort in her thoughts and dreams. Finally it turned out that an old lady who claimed to be her gramma took her in. That old lady was the only person who cared for her and that only saved her from drifting away forever. And when Ruby got older she started caring for the old lady too. When all of a sudden when Ruby was 19 her gramma died, and Ruby found herself running into the night. She didn't go far when she was grabbed by behind and and stabbed by a needle that put her sleep. I turned around to regard the tray again. They say practice makes perfect. With another hop and a single wingbeat, I managed to land in the sand tray with fanned wings slowing my momentum.
