Ever since Izuku was a young boy, he loved the ocean. He wished he could stay underwater forever under the local swimming pool. One fateful night, he met the great merman who called himself Posidon, and granted him the ability to live in both worlds. Izuku being so young, had no idea about what he had given to him, but had learnt the severe consequences when he became older. This ability had made him terrified of the ocean he once loved, and would only watch it from that moment on, filling him with great sadness. One fateful stormy night, Midoriya is swept away from his mom's boat in the summer holidays, and cast out to sea. And who better to tell him how to accept himself, than a boy who's running away from home.

When you're born you have a mark on the back of your hand. The more detailed the mark the more pain your soulmate is in. It starts as a blob and the more pain your soulmate feels the more detailed it becomes. So naturally, most people have a blob-ish mark on the back of their hand.
