Two years after Moana returns to Motunui, her life seems to have gone back to what it was before Te Fiti. Chiefly duties outweigh the calling of the sea, Maui has been gone for what seems like ages, and Moana's unhappiness returns, but is now self inflicted. However, destiny has big plans for its 'Little Ocean'. After swallowing one of Auahitūroa's (God of Comets) stars by accident, Tangaroa (God of the Sea) gives his heart to the Ocean so it will be protected from Auahitūroa's wrath. Somehow (but not really a mystery) Moana comes across the heart on the shores of Motunui. It unfortunately comes with a few consequences, including a new relationship with the water, conscious tattoos which come from nowhere and Moana's new status as a Demigoddess of the Great Ocean, and half-daughter of Tangaroa. What could possibly go wrong?

Moana and Maui have always felt something for eachother however they both ignored it knowing that it could never happen. However what happens Moana starts to miss the ocean and being alone among the waves and leaves Motunui for a bit of space before she has to return to take her rightful place as chief and marry her betrothed? What happens when while she's on the ocean blue she sees Maui in his hawk form faltering against the wind and fall into the ocean? As she retrieves him from the water they start a whole knew journey to see Te Fiti and get answers? What happens when there feelings for eachother start to resurface? Will they be able to keep there feelings hidden so Moana can return to her island and follower her duties, or will she throw all of it away for love? If she does return to the island will Maui be able to stop her in time to save them both, or will he be to late and lose her forever? Read We Should Be to find out. Moana, a heroína e rainha da ilha de Motunui, sente falta das incríveis aventuras que passou ao lado do seu grande amigo, Maui. Os dias monótonos na aldeia cansam a garota cada dia mais, e ela anseia por novos desafios. Sua realidade muda totalmente quando o oceano começa a ficar calmo, calmo até demais. No começo, era uma festa! Peixes e mais peixes, até que as águas cristalinas foram sendo substituídas por uma de cor escura, e para completar, uma aldeia vizinha à sua chega misteriosamente, prometendo curar o mar, mas em troca, o príncipe desse outro clã deseja a menina como noiva. Algo alerta a garota que tudo aquilo não passa de armação, e que o problema do oceano é algo muito maior. Maui, Moana e Hayhay partem em outra grande jornada ainda mais difícil, pois dessa vez, os desafios serão muito maiores. Os sentimentos entre a rainha de Motunui e o grande semi-deus começam a ser um pouco diferentes, algo além da amizade, e principalmente: não poderão contar com a ajuda do mar, que está fraco demais, pois o poder que tem apenas serve para resistir aos severos ataques do indomável demônio do vale das profundezas, que depois do seu sono de mil anos, acordou empenhado em destruir a ilha de Motunui, e todo o oceano também. E o horizonte clama, mais uma vez, pela ajuda de Moana.

Moana se tornara uma grande chefe. Seu pai já não estava mais entre o povo de Motonui. A garota de 19 anos se via obrigada por sua mãe a casar-se com Ray, um garoto de 21 anos, egocêntrico, por uma aliança desnecessária. Com raiva de toda situação, Moana decide fugir alguns dias antes do casamento. Ela sabia que estava a ser irresponsável abandonando seu povo... Mas a mesma não podia se casar com alguém que nem ao menos conhecia, e muito menos amava. E, três anos após toda a aventura que viveu ao lado de Maui, irá viver a mesma aventura. Achará o herói de todos, cruzará o oceano e irão em busca de novas aventuras pelo imenso mar, não impedindo que um amor surja no meio de tudo aquilo.

Com o passar das quatro estações, Moana e Maui percebem que estão cada vez mais apaixonados um pelo outro. Um amor tão certo e poderoso quanto os inevitáveis ciclos da natureza.
