Isaac Schwartz has lived without ever gazing upon the outside world ever since he was born. A devastating war - said to have wrought mass destruction upon all that humanity once held dear - continues to rage on, with no end in sight. Isaac's dream to witness what lay beyond the concrete confines of his home will lead him down a path to join the heroes he holds so dear to his heart, but the truth that he will soon come to find will be far more sinister than he had ever imagined. ******************************************************************************** Disclaimer: Contains violence and gore. "Every soul has a breaking point. Some emerge to become something else. Others become something far worse." The shadow of the Black Prom Massacre still suffocates Chamberlain, Maine. Though the world believes Carrie White perished in the flames, the truth survived beneath the ashes. Broken in body and spirit, Carrie wanders in hiding, tormented by the terrifying telekinetic force awakened within her and hunted by those who would exploit it. As despair threatens to consume her completely, a wandering stranger leads Carrie to the only man who may understand the darkness destroying her from within: Jago, the haunted warrior-monk seeking redemption for his own corrupted soul. Under his guidance, Carrie begins a brutal struggle to master the rage, fear, and unimaginable power threatening to tear her apart. But powerful forces are already closing in. The same ruthless organizations and supernatural predators that stalk the fighters of Killer Instinct now seek to weaponize Carrie's abilities for their own ends. And with the apocalyptic return of Gargos drawing near, Carrie must decide what she will become: a victim, a monster, or something powerful enough to stand against the coming darkness. Because Carrie White survived. And the world is not ready for what she is becoming. ------------------------------------------ Cover credited by @Niranju98. A race of human beings with horrific ancestry, an Empire's conquest of a faraway island, a man's search for divinity. Here lies Gehenna, here lie the damned. ***This novel contains mentions of violence, murder, rape & suicide -- Reader Discretion Advised*** Author's Note: Growing up with shows like Supernatural and Black Butler, reading novels like Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth, and most importantly reading the Bible the full way through, I've gotten extremely fascinated by the esoteric aspects of Christian mythology and Biblical lore. This story is inspired heavily by such Christian motifs and symbolism, specifically the Nephilim and the Book of Enoch. The setting of the story, rather than being the modern world, is instead the Age of Discovery. The reason being that, this era - the early 16th century, was a tumultous period when Christianity was spread via the early colonial Empires, and much of it involved horrific tales of the Inquisition and subjugation of conquered peoples. What better a place, then, for a novel inspired by Christian mythology than such a period? ----------------------------------------------------------- Highest Tag Rankings: 1st in #thought-provoking --- November 22nd, 2022 2nd in #cosmichorror --- September 30th, 2022 3rd in #lovecraftian --- September 8th, 2022 3rd in #biblical --- January 19th, 2023
