In 2/19th Special Weapons Group Rear Detachment usually means drinking beer, making sure nobody burns down the barracks, and trying not to freeze to death. It's usually easy duty, day on day off and kicking back. For Corporal Anthony "Ant" Stillwater and Specialists Nancy Nagle and John Bomber it's a little bit of relaxation, time to unwind after a grueling year of special weapons work, and nothing that they can't handle without breaking a sweat. This time there's something wrong. A killer roams the barracks, just as highly trained, just as motivated, and just as familiar with the territory as the soldiers of Rear Detachment. He has it all planned out, has prepared for it, and has the advantage of surprise. For those of you having trouble with the terms, I've put in a lexicon under my works. It should help. (This is NOT the Amazon version, but rather the 3rd revision before the expansion into the version on Amazon. It's here for those of you that are unable to purchase the Amazon version so that you know what's going on in the rest of the books)

Corporal Anthony Stillwater and Specialists Nancy Nagle and John Bomber barely survived a brutal surprise attack by a masked killer in their own barracks. Now, their convalescent leave canceled, they find themselves back in the 2/19th Special Weapons Group barracks on top of frozen Alfenwehr. In charge of Rear Detachment is a supposed sadist and psychopath, Lieutenant James, who has been tasked with repairing the barracks. A simple enough job. However, the troops that have been sent up to Alfenwehr are soon going to discover than they are not alone. For those of you having trouble with the terms, I've put in a lexicon under my works. It should help. (Note: This is the rough draft version, before extensive editing and expansion. Consider this a preview of the finished draft)

First they survived a serial killer in their own barracks. Then they went to the wall against a pre-conflict strike of Soviet Union soldiers attacking them in their own barracks, leaving behind half of their number dead and the survivors of the brutal close quarters combat shell shocked and physically wounded. Criminal Investigation Division, the National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the FBI, and the CIA are all interested in what went on. Accompanying the members of the Alphabet Agencies is the aide of a member of the House Military Affairs Commission and members of the Secret Service. All of them wanted to know what happened. Unfortunately for them, the blood spilled on the mountain in the name of madness and hatred has woken it from its ancient slumber. And it wants more. THIS STORY IS A ROUGH DRAFT/STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS VERSION OF WHAT WILL EVENTUALLY BE EDITED AND EXPANDED INTO BOOK FOUR OF THE PUBLISHED SERIES.

Life is hard at FSTS-317, AKA: Atlas, a depot where conventional, nuclear, and chemical weapons are stored, but nobody said the life of a Special Weapons soldier in the US Army would be easy. For Nancy Nagle, a medic qualified member of 2/19th Special Weapon Group and an experienced Special Weapons soldier, the day started with an argument and got a lot worse very quickly. With an unknown amount of casualties out of the two 13-man squads, limited supplies, and a host of other problems, Nancy Nagle finds herself one of the few unwounded soldiers forced by duty and loyalty to head into the blast zone to search for wounded and survivors. As the body count and the number of wounded stack up it quickly becomes apparent that Atlas had seen its chance, and taken it.

Specialist (E-4) Johnathon Bomber is a member of 2/19th Special Weapons Group and the assistant squad leader of the team in charge of FSTS-317 AKA Atlas. Less than 12 hours ago Atlas suffered a massive munitions detonation that destroyed two bunkers and scattered damaged ammunition over the fifteen square mile clandestine site. Wounded was his squad leader, Corporal Stillwater, who is unconscious and recovering from surgery, Nancy Nagle, who had been injured by a thermobaric blast, and PFC Cromwell, who had been shot through the abdomen by a Soviet soldier. That leaves him in charge of a squad that has less than a half dozen members left out of almost 30, all of them wounded to one extant or the other, some, like Stillwater, should be in an ICU. He has to keep them all alive, and figure out what is next for the site and the crew of Atlas. However, the new Section Sergeant has decided to stay at Atlas and hold command, Group has sent reinforcements that are unfamiliar with the deadly atmosphere of Atlas, radiation and chemical levels are rising, and other people have plans for Atlas. It's going to be all John Bomber can do to struggle through everything Atlas is throwing at him. And when the CIA gets involved, everything is suddenly put in doubt.

Paul Foster is a 17 year old boy, a white trash high school dropout without even a GED to his name, an adulteress ex-wife he married at 16, uncaring (at best) parents, who's left behind his hometown for what he felt would be an uncaring world. Once finished with Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, he finds himself assigned to 2/19th Special Weapons Group and figures that nothing in an uncaring world matters. Exposed to nerve agent. Fighting Soviet soldiers over control of a 15 square mile section of Western Germany. Seeing friends die. The crushing weight of his duties in an uncaring military steadily grinds away at him. However, in the fire and blood of the hell of 2/19th he finds a small spark. A dancing firefly in the middle of misery and terror that has wound around him and held his heart in her tiny hands. Amid the blood and gunfire of a war that nobody knows or cares about, he's found friends and his place in the world. But now he has to return home. To a past he tried to leave behind. When everything goes bad, the tormentors of his past quickly discover the simple fact of 2/19th. Like his fellow soldiers, Paul Foster may look like a man, but he isn't. He's a weapon.

His confidence and body still damaged by the explosion at Atlas early in the year and his bloody war with his family, Anthony Stillwater has been assigned to Rear-D for the third year in a row. With him is Bomber and Nancy; Aine and Foster on leave, Cromwell at Special Weapons school, and the rest of the squad dead, the trio have no backup in a unit that has forgotten they even exist. With no allies present, no reputation and trust with the others on Rear-D, and still suffering from the events of the last year, the outcome is in doubt if anything goes wrong during the winter. It's Alfenwehr, it's winter, and Tandy is on the loose, so of course things will go wrong. This is a rough draft, only having undergone minor timeline updates and name replacements.
