All the earth is torn asunder. There used to be grass, and the sun used to be golden. Children played outside, climbing trees with smiles on their faces and grass stains on their knees. People worried about a million things that would soon be irrelevant, continuing without a clue of the disaster to come. Centuries later, what little is left of humanity survives in a society constructed beneath the surface of a glass dome, the world outside converted to little more than a desert wasteland. Survival is a routine rather than an effort, and all rules are surpassed by only one: if you want to survive, you never leave the dome. There's nothing alive out there. The radiation that soaks the earth makes sure of that. Until one day, someone finds a bloody, dust-covered handprint on the outside of the glass. Nothing will ever be the same again. The world as humanity knew it was gone. In its place was a radioactive wasteland, scorched by nuclear furnaces. The third millenium passed unmarked and uncelebrated by those in the safezones. The rich took to the oceans, and to the skies, leaving everyone else behind. Stranded in the isolated "safe zones", with no knowledge of the worlds above their heads. Igor Jonovich changed everything. Nanotechnology, long thought to be impossible, flourished under his genius. Even as the walls of their radioactive cage closed in, humanity pushed back, harnessing Jonovich's creations to explore the radioactive wastelands. To challenge the twisted creatures that lurked in the ashes of their former glory. Humanity thought they, at least, knew this scarred earth. It turns out even that was a lie. Yesterday Jared found a message hidden within Professor Jonovich's greatest work that changed everything.

As my eyes flickered open they were greeted by a blinding white light. So bright that my eyes were in agony. It was freezing. It was either that, or they had numbed my entire body because I couldn't feel a thing. As the light began to fade, everything was in a blur. I could feel my heart begin to race, its loud thumping filling my ears. Then everything came into focus. And I could finally see the needle that was slowly coming down towards my face. With a swift jolt, I tried to roll out from underneath it. But my wrists were quickly bound by the restraints that ejected from the table where I laid. Now my heart was pounding faster than it ever had; its pulsing vibrated through my veins. And suddenly my neck was now being held in place, cold metal restraints cupped my cheeks, my right eyelid held open. And the needle just kept coming, until it passed through my pupil, and everything went black. My name is Darya Lynx. And I am dead.
