When Krešimir Kraljević, a Croatian Roman Catholic priest, who has been leading a double life at Zagreb Cathedral in Yugoslavia for the past twelve years takes a routine confession one afternoon in November 1940, it triggers a suppressed desire to avenge his father's murder and to consummate a forbidden love, reminding him of who he was before he became a priest and a 'vampir'.
After leaving the priesthood, his world is turned upside down when the past begins to unravel and he discovers everything and everyone in his life was part of a masterfully crafted plan by a secret organization and the man who murdered his father, Vukar Vrago is actually a fallen angel and the father of Greta, an orphan he was raised with and has loved since he was ten years old.
As he adapts to 'life on the outside' after nineteen years, family and friends begin to reveal dark secrets that hail all the way back to ancient times, spanning across the globe, and he begins to understand why everything is as it should be, despite the fact that he previously thought his life was the result of pure happenstance. It is then that he begins a journey of self-acceptance, which requires embracing both good and bad within himself to fight one of the most evil beings that ever walked the earth, while also contemplating his decision to sacrifice his mortality for Greta, whom he is uncertain will leave her new life in America to return to him.
