After having Sonic announce that he would be marrying Sally Acorn Amy fell into a state of depression. She stopped eating and sleeping and just wasn't herself. Even so she hid her pain behind her ALMOST perfectly plastered smile. Still a few friends and acquaintances could tell. One of those people happened to be Shadow the Hedgehog. He was never really close to Amy but once he saw her collapse on the street he took it upon himself to get the love sick hedgehog out of her slump.
