Since 2043 a new law has been put in place to keep the country safe. It states that no one is allowed to be outside or look outside after dusk. If you disobey the rules you will never be seen again. You will be taken away by whatever lives in the dark. I wrote this a long time ago, the grammar sucks. I'm sorry, but I can't be bothered to go back and add hundreds of commas, so this is what ya'll get.

My name is Violet Mercer. When I was about 4, I watched my parents die. A few weeks later, I was branded and shipped off with a bunch of other kids to my new fate, to train and learn for 10 years until I was sold to someone else as a slave. Brutal beginning? Yeah. But it's the truth. See, here's the thing. A few years back--maybe a little under 50--we humans did something stupid. It was part of an experiment called G42 by some genetics company that was trying to speed up evolution. What did they do? Well, they altered specific genetic strands to see if they could create a sort of super-human. Their answer? Yes. But there was a flaw in their plan. These new 'evolved' humans, or 'evos', were everything they could have hoped for--strong, and fast, and smart. Practically immortal, too, so what was the problem? They were born without emotions. Maybe this doesn't sound too bad to you, but our emotions? They're what make us human. What happened next was kinda inevitable: the Evos took over. There are two strands of DNA--get one, and your set for life. Get the other, good luck living to see past your sweet sixteen. And if you are one of the crazy (or brave, depending on who you ask) people who dares to bring a child into this world, you could give them the best, longest life ever, or doom them to an early death after a suckish life. So, yeah. Our world is screwed up. And we can't go to G42 for a solution, because as soon as the Evos realized the possibilities, they slaughtered everyone who might know something and blew up the facility. Now, dear reader, are you beginning to understand the use of emotions? This is my story. I still don't know how it ends, whether it was all for better or worse. But you're here. So go ahead and read. Maybe we'll both learn a little something. Welcome to my life. I hope you survive in this new world. By Earthstone #567 in Teen Fic on 6/17/2016

"Why? Why me?", I ask, infuriation prominent in my tone, with tears rapidly streaming down my face. "You should consider yourself a lucky shot. I have never loathed or dispised anyone this very much. He brings out the worst in me. He makes me aware of the fumes of abhorrence and contempt I never knew I had. But he also makes me realize something else I never knew I had.. Love. **** Cassandra Williams, a sixteen year old social introvert who does not comprehend or believe in love or any such human emotions, encounters a discourteous and unpleasant boy who she instinctively loathes inspite of his jaw-dropping looks. A dark and highly secretive happenstance of his past serves the reason to his cold traits. He, like her, due to this ever so mysterious event perceives life in the most practical way, unable to comprehend or display any sort of sentiments. That's where the similarity ends. Cassandra involuntarily finds herself falling deeply in love with this exasperating boy, at the expense of her own paths and tactics. As she eventually ventures into a phase characteristic of love, life, downfall and heart break, will she ever get back to being her past self? One day, Apocalypse came to pass. It started with a fog that engulfed the world. Thick and heavy in the atmosphere, nearly unbreathable to humans and able to corrupt a soul. It killed livestock, pulled buildings to the ground and deadened the soil. After a month, shields were erected over major cities to keep it out, but by then humanity could no longer see the sun. Next, they disappeared - the citizens in shieldless towns and the towns themselves - completely consumed by the fog. And in their place came monsters, beasts that craved human flesh and blood and knew nothing but destruction. In a matter of days, only half of humanity remained. . . but they didn't plan on going down without a fight. - Round Three Qualifier of the Tridents Awards (Winner of the Judge's favorites and Table Shakers subcategories)

~ AVAILABLE ON AMAZON: https://www.amazon.com/dp/164434193X ~ She hated riding the subway. It was cramped, smelled, and the seats were extremely uncomfortable to sit on for hours on end. Now add a group of crazy mask-wearing, weapon-wielding, maniacs to the ever growing list of reasons why Gemma hated riding the subway. Gemma Conners is your average eighteen year old and for the past two years she's been riding the subway to and from school with no problem. She always expected the same ol' same ol'. Cramped spaces, hard seats, and perverts staring her up and down and "accidentally" bumping into her and blaming it on the train as it jostled people into one another. Never did she expect a group of masked men to rush in and hold everyone onboard hostage, demanding that they all play along with their sick and twisted idea of a "game". It was either that or die. To add on to her ever growing list of problems, one of the passengers onboard just so happens to be Archer Daniels, your typical high school "heartthrob" and Gemma's classmate. Her day just kept getting better and better. With Gemma's luck, she'd be lucky if she lasted five minutes. Yep. She really hated the subway. *Book Cover Credit: Irah Marie* Thanks again for making such an AMAZING cover!❤️
