Your mind is your prison when you focus on your fears. It makes you believe that you can't get out this misery and that your the only one who is like this. She felt this all the time and couldn't get over it. Even though she was now trying to get out of this jeopardized situation through some professional help but her feeling that she is the only weirdo in this world wasn't letting her out. It was only when she met this guy who was extremely opposite of her but still so similar to him. He was in his own misery but soon realised he wasn't alone either and that she was going through something similar too. Both of them lost the real person they really were untill they found each other which lead them finding themselves. Life is too short to argue with yourself so just give yourself that chance to grow into the person you really are.
