A forbidden kiss that cracks the barrier between the Dreamworld and the human realm... a forbidden love too strong to deny. Casimir - commanding, respected, and powerfully magical - is set to become the next Lord of the Dream Realm. But after he shares a forbidden kiss with a dreaming human, he's banished in disgrace to be Lord of the Nightmare Realm instead. That was three years ago. Now thirty-eight years old, Casimir rules the Nightmare Realm with strict discipline and selfless dedication - and he keeps his heart rigidly in check. But everything changes when twenty-four-year-old Taren arrives in the Nightmare Palace. Kind, devoted, and easily flustered, Taren strives to serve Casimir obediently, yet has an inadvertent tendency to get himself into trouble - and to get caught by Casimir. Casimir finds himself ever more drawn to Taren, and he soon longs to give Taren all the tender care he deserves. Taren, meanwhile, secretly dreams of being Casimir's, though he tells himself that his feelings are surely one-sided. But Taren also carries a larger secret - one he wishes with all his heart to tell Casimir, but is afraid to. One that could change the fate of the Dreamworld. When a mysterious increase in nightmares leads Casimir and Taren to seek answers, each step they take brings them closer together - but also closer to a force that could tear the very world apart. The more they discover, the clearer the real question facing them becomes: Are some love stories simply not meant to be? Or can love truly conquer all? *** There will be 35 story parts. This story is Mature due to eventual scenes of explicit sexual intimacy between the two main characters. All such scenes depict caring, fully consensual intimacy between adults. I like long chapters, and that shows here! Most run between 3,000-4,000 words. Three asterisks (***) signal a break between sections in a chapter. One (*) signals a change in POV between the two main characters. Happy reading!

The oldest merfolk say the sea was once the sky. Before the first dawn, there was no horizon to divide heaven from the deep. Above and below were one endless sea of light, where fireflies drifted between constellations and the first odes of creation sang through the silence, but when morning came for the first time, the heavens rose, holding the sun and moon into the heights, and the world was forever parted into sky and sea. Yet the stars could not bear such a farewell, so they left behind their reflections beneath the waves. Ever since, every star has had two homes: one above the world and one below it, where they shimmer in the dark waters of the Sea of Stars. Sailors believe they are only reflections, but merfolk know they are memories of an older world, still calling to those willing to listen. It is said that, on the rarest of nights, a child is born between those reflections, bearing both the longing of the heavens and the sorrow of the sea. Such souls belong to neither world. The sea claims they dream too much of the sky, the sky says their hearts beat with the tides, and so they spend their lives searching for a place that feels like home, never knowing whether they are chasing a distant shore...or a forgotten star.

𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚...𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧. - Oasis Awards 3rd place - Upon nearing adulthood, citizens of Aegia face the choice to risk it all. For some, it's all about the glory, and living up to their family name. For others, it's an offer of security, of knowing where their next meal is coming from. And so they make the choice to enroll in one of several Academies, where they are taught the ancient texts, the history of the realm, and the sacred runes handed down by the gods themselves. At the end of their time there, they face a series of tests to be sorted into two castes: 𝗔𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀, the elite rulers, advance to the top positions in their field, deciding what is built, what is destroyed, where taxes go...and who lives and dies. And 𝘀𝘆𝗹𝗿𝗮, the servants bound by magic to their Aelaris. Seen as little more than an appendage and status symbol, they spend their days following their Aelaris and living for their demands, completely devoted and content in their role. The bond is considered sacred. It prevents the Aelaris from ever harming their sylra while ensuring the sylra is happy to serve. It is the Rite of Ascension that determines who belongs where, a process that measures worth and potential, through the power of the gods. Rian Argon-son has always believed he was destined to join the ranks of the Aelaris, working tirelessly to prove himself worthy. Meanwhile his nemesis Ileana, born into wealth and privilege, has always seen herself as a true heir to power. Their rivalry has simmered in all their time at the Academy, and now the final testing is upon them. They may be both top of their class, but ultimately the Rite of Ascension will decide everything. Both have prepared. Neither are ready. Cover by @Merlyn_Fereira
