Annalise Merryweather's life was no fairytale. In fact, it had dealt her several crushing blows in quick succession: a cheating fiancé who left her with mountains of debt, a former best friend who had stabbed her in the back, an apartment her landlord was going to kick her out of, and a job that was about to make a round of layoffs.
With her life falling apart, she decides that a hike may do her some good. She spends hours in nature, hoping it will center her. And when she turns to return to the familiar path back to her camping grounds, she finds that she is completely and utterly lost.
And the sole witness to a murder.
Prince Marcellus Gaius Hanover and his two siblings had planned their father's assassination to a frighteningly detailed degree; the remote location of his mother's burial ground, the stronger wine to lower his guard, the poison in the wine to weaken him, the cursed blade that was impervious to his magic, and the dead Vampire they planned to blame it on.
What they didn't expect was a female who would witness their high treason.
And not just any female: a human. The kind that hasn't been seen in all of Soltarius in millennia.
The solution was easy: kill her before she could alert anyone. But when his brother raised his blade to dispatch her, his body moved to deflect it, his magic binding her under his protection before he could stop it.
They do not talk about what this means; they only know that they must conceal this female before she rains down hell upon them all.
With a war raging, stability among their ranks crumbling, and his coronation as the new King incumbent, the last thing they need is for their myriad enemies to find out that the goddesses had mated the King of the Wysterian Fae to a lowly mortal.
